SOME THINGS MAKE NO SENSE

Since this is a place for me to ramble, ponder, consider, cogitate, deliberate, ruminate, think and have fun sharing my thoughts on all sorts of topics, I'll start with something I read other day that got me, well, musing.

There was a story about Wall-Mart on the web. Seems, in light of a recent school shooting spree in a place called Newtown, Connecticut,  that the folks who run the biggest retail establishment in the world decided, in so far as their US stores go at least, that they would continue to sell assault weapons but that they would ban music that had swear words in them. Why? Because some people find swear words objectionable.

Well, this is nuts. I think a lot of people find assault weapons objectionable too.

By the way, I'm not one of them. Not at all. I happen to believe wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment to our US Constitution. I think if someone wants to buy a cannon or an army tank or a machine gun or a submarine, or have a closet full of assault weapons, that's their right. Although, truth be told, I'd be a little uncomfortable if someone in my neighborhood had an atomic bomb in their garage. I draw the line somewhere.

But Wall-Mart is now and always has been wholeheartedly interested in making boatloads of money. So they'll likely never ban assault weapons. Or pay serious attention to the wishes of those who might think shotguns are okay, rifles are okay, pistols are okay, but military assault weapons that are specifically designed to spray lots of bullets and kill lots of (not deer or ducks) but lots of people are not.

There is a lot more money to be made selling guns than music and Wall-Mart, not my favorite store as perhaps you can tell, well, they're not about to slow down the money train for any reason, ever.
